14 km East of the town center on the Akrotiri peninsula there is the international commercial airport of Chania
(CHQ). Several domestic airlines serve it several times per day, and during the summer half-year it is after Heraklion the second destination for charter flights to Crete
In the neighbourhood there is the bay of Souda which is the largest natural port in the Mediterranean, being used by NATO as well. The ferry terminal of Souda is 6 km south-east of the town center of Chania, and rental cars for Crete are being delivered there as well.
Beautiful sandy beaches are located both in north-east direction along the west coast of the Akrotiri peninsula
, and in western direction along the north coast of Crete
. There they spread over a distance of 25 km via Agia Marina, Platanias and Maleme until Kolymbari, and on the other side of the Rodopos peninsula they continue until behind Kastelli Kissamos which is the second biggest of the two cities in the administrative district of Chania
